                                   Overview of the Department

 

 

The Tashkent State University of Economics, Faculty of International Tourism, Department of Customs Affairs was established in 1993 under the name “International Transport Relations and Customs Affairs”.

In order to provide the customs and tax system being formed in our republic with qualified personnel, in accordance with the Decree of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Uzbekistan dated May 2, 1995 №175 “On providing the tax and customs system of the Republic of Uzbekistan with qualified personnel”, the Department of State Regulation of Export and Customs Affairs was established at the Tashkent State University of Economics.

Based on the tasks of liberalizing foreign economic activity, developing international transport relations, and improving the customs service on the basis of international law in our republic, the name of the department was:

- in 2001 “Customs and Transport Relations in Foreign Economic Activity”;

- in 2003 “Customs and Logistics”;

- since 2005, the Department of Customs Affairs;

-From November 1, 2011, the department was renamed "Logistics and Infrastructure Development";

-In 2016, the department was renamed "Infrastructure Development and Logistics";

-From April 2020, the department was renamed "Business Administration and Logistics".

In 2024, as part of TSUE’s institutional reorganization, the Department reinstated its original title: Business Administration

 

Academic Profile and Programs

The Department delivers undergraduate and graduate curricula focused on international trade, economic diplomacy, integration processes, and global development. Programs combine rigorous theory with applied coursework, case analysis, and policy-oriented projects to prepare graduates for roles in the public sector, international organizations, and globally engaged firms.

 

Since 1993, about 1,500 students have completed programs run by the Department. Many alumni work in public administration, including the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and in internationally focused economic sectors, highlighting the Department’s role in developing the country’s human capital.

 

Faculty and Scholarly Capacity

The department has 30 full-time faculty members, including Doctors of Science (DSc) and PhDs, as well as senior teachers and lecturers. The department is led by Professor Ubaydullo Gafurov, the current department chair. Faculty members engage in active research projects while teaching, ensuring that course content remains aligned with the latest developments in business management, logistics and supply chain practices, customs regulation, and modern trade facilitation.

 

Research Priorities and Impact

Departmental research supports national strategic priorities in business competitiveness, logistics and supply chain efficiency, customs modernization, export development, and trade facilitation.

Faculty members publish their findings in peer-reviewed journals, prepare policy briefs, and provide expert consultations to government agencies and industry partners.
Through this work, the Department contributes to evidence-based decision-making, enhances the effectiveness of logistics and customs operations, and strengthens international cooperation in trade and business development.

 

Curriculum Development and Collaboration

The Department regularly reviews and updates its curricula to meet international standards and the evolving labor-market requirements in business management, logistics, and customs affairs.

Its programmes and course structures serve as models for peer institutions in Uzbekistan.
Close collaboration with government bodies, logistics companies, customs authorities, and international academic networks supports internships, guest lectures, industry projects, and joint research initiatives, all of which enhance student learning, practical skills, and employability.
